Music Business AAS Degree


Globe University/Minnesota School of Business-Woodbury (GU/MSB) offers an associate degree in Music Business. This degree, which can be completed in as little as 21 months of full-time study, demonstrates to potential employers that you have business skills and knowledge of the music industry. This program covers business, audio production concepts and the music industry.

Career opportunities for Music Business associate degree graduates

As a graduate of the program, you will be prepared for entry-level positions in the music business, including the following:

  • Artist managers
  • Music venue managers
  • Music promoters

Students’ college internships and part-time jobs in the music business often lead to full-time positions after graduation.

Coursework in our Music Business degree program

Students take classes in three major areas to earn their AAS degrees in Music Business.

  • Business: business communications, accounting, business communication, marketing, art of selling, small business management and advertising and promotion
  • Music industry: entertainment networking and self-promotion, recording industry, copyright and music publishing, artist management/live performance, music business in radio and television, music business current trends and advanced topics
  • Audio production: audio production, MIDI production, advanced audio production. All students gain experience with ProTools™, giving them an understanding of the terminology used in audio production.

In addition to completing 64 credits of core classes, students also complete 30 credits of general education courses to strengthen their communication and presentation skills. The program’s capstone courses help students with their job searches. Our Career Services Department is ready to assist students both before and after graduation. The staff offers classes on resume preparation and interviewing skills. They also provide employer-networking opportunities through job fairs and other events.

Further education in the music business

Students who complete the two-year degree program at our Woodbury campus can return to earn a bachelor’s degree in Business Management with a Music Business focus. Many courses in the associate degree program will transfer to our BS degree in Business Management.
