What does a medical administrative assistant do?

Medical administrative assistants perform clerical and administrative duties such as:

Medical administrative assistant programs

Our associate’s degree program in medical administrative assistant can be completed in as little as 18 months with a full time class load. The coursework includes classes in:

  • Computer Information Systems

  • Keyboarding
  • Medical Terminology Anatomy and Physiology
  • Health Care Law and Ethics

  • Medical Office Procedures

In addition to these courses, also required for the Medical Administrative Assistant diploma, you will need to complete 40 credits in general education and electives. These will prepare you to work in diverse environments with people of all ages, cultural backgrounds and occupations.

The medical administrative assistant diploma program takes 12 months of full time class work and requires 59 college credits. If you return to GU/MSB later to earn a medical administrative assistant associate’s degree, your diploma program credits will transfer smoothly.

In either case, you may be able to obtain college credit for previous work or military experience, training and education. We will evaluate your record carefully to ensure that you are able to complete your degree or diploma program as efficiently as possible.
