Criminal justice program of study developed and taught by experienced professionals
Our courses were developed in consultation with an advisory board made up of experienced professionals in the field. Our criminal justice instructors include a private security officer, a Hennepin County deputy sheriff, a Minnesota state trooper and a Ramsey County prosecutor. Theoretical and practical training for a career in criminal justice
Our programs help students develop an understanding of the social and political context of our criminal justice system. This gives our graduates the background they need for successful careers in security firms, the court system and corrections.
In addition, they learn practical problem solving skills using real-life situations. Our students are eligible for reduced rates for firearms training that prepares them to take the Minnesota Permit to Carry a Concealed Weapon test. They learn investigative procedures. They develop communication skills. This dual approach – theoretical and practical – gives our graduates the skill set desired by employers.
An investment that pays dividends
A criminal justice associates degree program can be completed in as little as 18 months if the student attends classes full time. Part-time study is an option for students whose schedules don’t permit full-time attendance. In addition, our criminal justice associate’s program is available through GU/MSB online, making it possible for students with busy lives and demanding jobs to finish the classes on their own schedules. Whether you take online, day or evening classes, you will find that a college degree in criminal justice opens doors.
You can jump start your studies
Many of our students bring prior work experience in the criminal justice system, military training or previous college classes to GU/MSB. We carefully evaluate requests for college credit for work experience, training or education.
